Samsung Universal Remote – Are They As Good As The TVs?
Of all the universal remote controls that I have seen at friends places and tried myself, there is none worse than the universal remote controls manufactured by Samsung. It is weird that such a large manufacturer of televisions should end up creating tech disasters. I was once looking for the best Samsung universal remote, but I would ask you not to.
To begin with, let us focus on the RMC 30D. I cannot state a single reason why I should be using it. In fact, I’d do so only if I wanted a replica of the iPhone 4. Yes, that is all it does more or less.
The Samsung universal remote is slow to react
The touch screen is not intuitive at all; in fact that is pretty much the problem with almost all of the Samsung universal remotes. The latency between pushing a button on the remote and having that action invoked is high.
The manual buttons at the bottom are NOT configurable. The wifi though is good. But the worst of it all is the battery. The battery lasts for about 2-4 days at the most, and that too is only when the backlit display is set to its lowest possible setting.
The RMC30C2 model is pretty much the same thing, just a step down I guess. In fact, instead of using these models, I’d suggest you buy an iPad and download the Samsung remote app. At least that’d be cheap. Oh and not to mention that it lights up every time you bump into the place where it is kept!
If you are insistent on buying a Samsung universal remote controller, go buy a BN5900673A (pictured). It offers compatibility
with less sets and is NOT touch screen but it is worth it at the price that it is available. It is extremely newbie friendly and does not need any setup or installations.
Well received alternatives
If you need to buy a high end remote control that does really work, I’d suggest that you look at the harmony series. They are pretty much the best as far as I am concerned. The available models that I would choose would be the 880,890,one,900 and 1100(this is a WOW remote).

I’ll come straight to the point here. Both the 880 and 890 are decent remotes, and apart from an RF integration the 900. All the previous models do justice to the price. The wifi ability in the 900 is really good. The good part with it (and basically with all the other Logitech remotes is that they are really friendly, okay not if you need to customize it completely). On the whole though they are very ease to use.
The screen icons are configurable (and more icons are downloadable on the device). The IR blasters are great and do NOT need to ever be removed from the cabinet to do updates. All of these devices have very basic differences.
If you are in need of the RF then, 900 is the available option. The only thing that is not very likeable in the 900 is that during an activity you can’t do macros. They are however, available when an activity starts or ends.
The 1100 is by far the best model available and offers as close to complete customization as you can want! In fact,
I totally love it. A word of caution though, its software is a bit intensive, I mean if you hit a snag in between you’d have to get in touch with the customer service rep unless you really knew what you were doing.
The good thing is that the reps are indeed awesome. Even if they are stumped, they would figure out a solution pretty darn fast! The remote works almost flawlessly for me! Sometimes though, you may find navigating through the software quite a chore.
Otherwise, this is the universal remote controller that I would call perfect, and much better than any Samsung universal remote. It’s disappointing in a way that you have to go elsewhere but fortunate that you can I guess.
